Round 2 WRAP UP

Round 2 2025 Recap

Round 2 kicked off with four of our girls teams playing on Friday night. Our under 8 girls played well in their first away game at Aspley on Friday night kicking plenty of goals against the Hornets. Our u9 and u11 girls were both at the Den this week. Our u11 girls fought on valiantly after getting off to a slow start against a strong Kenmore outfit, restricting the Bears to 22 points. The u9 girls put on a strong performance against Wilston Grange. To finish off Friday night footy, our U13 girls again showed the quality of our girls footy with a big victory over Wilston Grange at Hickey Park, winning 70-6. All the more impressive was the fact that the victory could have been much larger except for some inaccurate goal kicking. Coaches Mel and Broderick will no doubt have them in front of the big sticks this week practicing their goal kicking.

Most of our junior teams played away this week. Our Auskick Play superstars had their first round of matches this week at home, while our three under 8 mixed teams were away against The Gap, Ferny Grove and Wilston Grange. Under 9 mixed gold travelled to Hilder Road to face The Gap, a match that was followed by our mixed u10s against The Gap, while our u9 mixed blue team travelled to Wilston Grange. Our final junior match on Saturday pitted our mixed u11s against The Gap in their first hit-out for the year. Our Wolves were too strong for the Dragons outfit right from the first bounce, showing the excellent skill and teamwork we are becoming accustomed to in our junior teams. They ran out winners 61-0.

In a quieter day on Sunday, we hosted only one game at The Den, our under 15 girls against Wilston Grange. Despite missing some of their key players, including both rucks, the girls put on a clinic. Coach Stinger Olesk has the girls playing dominant team footy, keeping the opposition scoreless for the 2nd week in a row. An impressive effort for a team made up of mostly bottom age girls with a number of U13 girls filling in. The girls ran out winners 103-0.

The rest of our youth teams played away on the weekend. Our U13 boys fought hard in some tough assignments at Kedron and Mayne. Our U15 Division 4 had an equally difficult assignment against a strong Aspley outfit, while our U15 Division 2 boys were strong winners against Mayne. Both our U17 teams went down valiantly in close matches. Our girls took on Sherwood in a close contest going down by 21 points. It looked like our U17 boys were going to run out winners after coming back from a poor start against Sandgate. They let themselves down with some inaccurate kicking, going down in the end by 5 points
